Low-cost, nearly 100 apartment units will soon be up for taking in the Big Tomato state via a lottery system which is happening now through early March 2021.

Moreover, this is the second such lottery-type drawing for affordable housing neighboring the city of Elk Grove in Sacramento County in the last three years. This is according to Sara Bontrager. She is the Elk Grove Housing and Public Services manager.

Low-Cost Complex

The Gardens at Quail Run is a complex located off of Bruceville Road near the Walmart. The complex will be done in April 2021 when time move-ins start.

The anticipation will be a bigger turnout this time around. This is due to the amount of enthusiasm for the first lottery at the Bow Street Apartments.

Lottery Entries for Affordable Housing

“A fair chance for everyone to enter into this is what we want to provide. There were about 100-units in that one and we had about 1,400 lottery entries the last time. There is a demand for affordable housing,” Bontrager said.

Through March 3rd, there will be entries for the lottery and therefore the drawing will take place on March 5th. Moreover, there is the eligibility for the lottery that is income-basing. It is capping at those earning up to 60% of the median area income. This will come to approximately no more than $36,000 for a 1-person household. It is up to $52,000 per year for a 4-person household, Bontrager said. The rents will range from about $500 to $1,200 a month. It depends on income level and the number of bedrooms.

Low-Cost Apartments Have Decent Amenities

There will be 96 apartment units in the complex. These units will range from 1, 2, and 3-bedrooms with amenities. They include a swimming pool, playground, and BBQ pits. Moreover, Bontrager said the units also have dishwashers, garbage disposals, and washer/dryer hookups.

“Once it’s finished, the property will be lovely. Seeing some folks who are really in need of this housing, we would love to see. Also, having them be able to find the stability of being able to find affordable rents,” she said.
